Container Homes Have Arrived and Are Here to Stay
While growing up, we may have all played with Legos and built houses with interesting shapes and designs of our choices. With the advancement in construction technology, building solutions have become a reality, known as container homes.
It is an innovative building concept that is gaining popularity in India. In contrast, this building technology is well-established and accepted in Europe, Canada, and the USA. However, in India, it is at a very nascent stage. In the purview of the growing space crunch and the pressing need to tackle the scarcity of houses, container homes present themselves as the best housing solution that India desperately needs.
What are Container Homes?
Container homes are an innovative housing concept where the steel structures are transformed into living spaces that are highly functional and stylish. The container homes can be of varying sizes, right from a single container small home to multiple-container homes.
In multi-storied homes, based on the design and layout, the containers are stacked on top or joined together- as per the requirement. In many countries, container homes have gained immense popularity mainly for their durability, strength, stylish design, and aesthetic appeal, and experts suggest that the trend is here to stay.
One of the primary reasons container homes are here to stay is that it presents itself as a sustainable and cost-effective solution for building high-quality homes faster. In a country like India, where there is a massive gap in the demand and supply of quality housing units, container homes are a feasible solution that can meet this gap.
In fact, under its 'housing for all mission,' the Government of India has been encouraging the use of container homes to provide a permanent housing unit for the homeless. This has given a significant flip to this solution in India. Also, given the space constraints for building the traditional housing units, and increasing construction cost, container homes are a beautiful alternative to house maximum people in a limited space.
Another significant advantage of building container homes is that these units are highly portable. This means the entire housing unit can be moved to different locations, which is impossible to achieve with the traditional homes. It is an ideal solution for providing temporary shelter homes for the workers near a construction site and can also be used as a commercial space for temporary administrative offices or accommodation facilities for the students.
