Faster and Sustainable: How Nest-In Is Redefining Modern Construction
Today, India’s construction landscape is being driven by the need for efficient and sustainable solutions. Traditional methods are struggling to keep up with increasing urbanisation and rising environmental concerns, as it is well-known that conventional construction processes, while strong and durable, can take years to be completed, not that safe, involves hassles, and require large amounts of precious natural resources like water.
This is where Tata Steel Nest-In comes into play, with innovative prefab construction solutions that redefine efficiency, durability, and sustainability. Let’s explore how Nest-In’s modern construction methods are setting new benchmarks in the construction industry in India.
Why India Needs Faster and Sustainable Construction
The demand for modern construction solutions is skyrocketing, and for good reason. Let’s take a look at three major challenges.
Rapid Urbanisation & Infrastructure Demand
With India’s population growing and cities expanding, the need for quick and scalable infrastructure is urgent. Traditional construction has been the norm for many decades, but it comes with its own set of problems, such as long delays, projects on indefinite hold due to legal or logistical challenges, and low-quality results. Thus, whether it's residential housing, commercial spaces, or industrial units, conventional construction methods are either failing to keep pace with demand, or are delivering poor quality and unsatisfactory infrastructure in-spite of taking a longer time.
Environmental Concerns & Carbon Footprint
Conventional construction contributes significantly to carbon emissions and resource depletion. Traditional construction methods use large quantities of raw material like cement, concrete, and bricks in the structures. To make these, high volumes of water are needed.
Additionally, the manufacturing of the raw materials is not always precise, leading to the generation of great amounts of construction waste. Moreover, there is constant dust and noise pollution, and the active on-site activity can present nuisances and dangers to passers-by and those who live in the neighbourhood. This can be particularly problematic in neighbourhoods where the buildings and project sites are in close proximity to each other: the pollution and disturbance can affect a large number of people.
Poorly Insulated Structures
As the climate crisis increases year on year, summers are getting hotter, especially in India. Homes and offices constructed with conventional methods are usually poorly insulated, meaning that there is constant intake of warm air and leakage of cool air during the summer, leading to ineffective cooling by air conditioners and therefore high energy bills. This leads to uncomfortable living and working conditions due to inconsistent temperatures.
The Nest-In Solution
Let’s explore how Nest-In’s efficient and sustainable construction practices solve these persistent challenges.
Faster Construction with Maximum Efficiency
Unlike traditional construction practices where most of the work takes place on-site, our prefab construction processes take place largely off-site. The prefab components are manufactured in a factory according to pre-set dimensions, ensuring that they are made to precision and accuracy, thereby reducing construction waste. In case of a modular structure, the entire module is built in the factory. The prefab components and modules are transported to the project site only for final assembly (for LGSF buildings) or just final installation (for modular plug and play structure). The final erection of the structure is done by small teams of skilled experts, thus ensuring quality and safety management.
This streamlined process makes Nest-In’s prefab construction process 2x faster than traditional construction methods, which is needed to keep face with India’s ever-rising infrastructure demands.
Sustainable Construction
Nest-In’s construction processes use 48% less freshwater than traditional construction methods. As the structures are made of prefabricated steel components, there is little use of natural resources like water in the construction. While traditional construction uses large volumes of water for raw materials used in the entire building, Nest-In’s prefab buildings use cement only in the foundation, and the above-ground structure is dry. Additionally, 65% fewer material sources are used than in traditional construction.
Moreover, as most of the prefab construction process takes place off-site, with only installation or assembly taking place on-site, there is reduced need for heavy equipment and machinery, fewer trips to and from the site, and only a small team of expert workers is needed. Thus, there is overall 53% less greenhouse gas impact from Nest-In’s prefab construction than traditional building methods.
Energy-Efficient Structures
Unlike traditionally constructed buildings, Nest-In's prefab structures are specially designed to offer good thermal insulation. Thus, our prefab spaces remain cool and comfortable in hot climates. For example, on a very hot day, an air conditioner or cooler would have to run for a long time (about 7 hours) in a conventional room to keep it consistently cool. However, in a prefab room, the same AC or cooler would run for only half the time to maintain the cool temperature, resulting in energy savings.

As modern infrastructure needs shift with the urban lifestyle and environmental challenges of the day, so must the approach to meeting them, and that’s where Nest-In steps in with innovative prefabricated construction solutions. With wide-ranging applications such as multi-storey hospitals, spacious warehouses, home rooftop extensions, modular corporate workspaces, and plug-and-play sanitation units, Nest-In’s prefab solutions offer fast, efficient, and sustainable structures.
