Rising to the Challenge: Building a COVID-19 Facility in Faridabad
During the second wave of the pandemic, when the world was dealing with fear and trying their best to secure hospital beds for their loved ones, the state of Haryana in India faced the same challenge. The average number of COVID-19 cases reported in Haryana from April to June 2021 was very high, and the State was struggling with a lack of medical infrastructure to treat the patients. Our customers from a hospital in Faridabad approached Nest-In to address the urgent requirement of medical infrastructure.
Our team, under the guidance of the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, constructed a 96-bed COVID-19 isolation facility for the customer with its modular plug and play solution, MobiNest.
Overcoming Challenges
Due to the monsoon season and the several restrictions placed during the pandemic, the Nest-In team faced a few serious challenges at different levels of the project.
- The second wave of the pandemic posed a significant challenge in terms of finding vendors and labour, given the widespread fear of contracting the virus.
- The State's strict lockdown restrictions caused a shortage of workers and delayed the procurement of materials. This was especially tough as the construction had to be completed within a time span of 3 months.
The Nest-In Solution
The Nest-In team built the COVID-19 isolation facility with MobiNest modular solutions. Nest-In’s MobiNest cabins are known for their 5x faster construction, high-quality components and insulation, and the ability to be easily relocated. The facility was set up with 96 beds and 23 cabins: 16 cabins for patients, 6 for washrooms, and 1 for doctors’ utility. Each patient cabin was fitted with 2 ACs, 6 medical beds, and medical furniture. Each bed was integrated with an oxygen pipeline. Additionally, all the cubicles were interconnected as per the customisation request, to make it easy for the doctors to move around.
The COVID-19 isolation facility was constructed within 3 months despite multiple logistical challenges and the heavy monsoon rains. Our team followed all COVID protocols and government guidelines, as safety is always a top priority for us. Each team member wore masks at all times and also followed safety protocols on-site during the construction process.
